Photography 1 (Color) – Color of Light

31 03 2010

For this assignment, we had to take pictures during different times of the day to explore the different colors of light. The first image was taken at 6:00pm and you can see has that golden glow of late afternoon. The second image was taken right at sunset and you can see how it creates harsh shadows but magnificent colors.

Photography 1 (Color) – Introduction to Color

31 03 2010

This is the first assignment of the semester where we were told to explore color. I decided to take pictures of colorful girls. The first image was inspired by the girl’s hair color, which is a vibrant red. For the second image, I wanted to focus on the girls eyes and lips to show the stark contrast of the different colors.

Photography 1 (Black & White) – Beauty

31 03 2010

We were told to photograph what we thought of as beautiful. I find nature quite beautiful, so I took a picture of some flowers. For my second photo, I chose to go a different route and shoot someone as they were beautifying themselves.

Photography 1 (Black & White) – Location

31 03 2010

For this assignment, we had to go to a specific place in Rexburg and photograph whatever was in the area. It really gave me a chance to study my subject and look closer for things to photograph.

Photography 1 (Black & White) – Portraits

24 02 2010

For this assignment, we had to take someone’s portrait. I chose my good friend, Kelcie. This was a very fun assignment because I got a lot of goofy shots as well as the serious and pensive shots. I found that if the subject is comfortable with the photographer, the photo shoot will go a lot easier and you’ll get more natural shots.

Photography 1 (Black & White) – Depth of Field

24 02 2010

The images for this class (Art 160) are being done in black and white. For our first assignment, we explored depth of field. The first image, a portrait of my friend Eva, shows a shallow depth of field. Her face is very sharp, and everything in the background is blurred, which makes your eye keep going back to face. The second image, a sugar silo, shows a great depth of field. Everything in the image is very sharp, from the bottom of the silo to the top, and the sky.

For this assignment, we had to take a picture at an interesting angle to create an illusion. I chose to have a girl hold out her hands like she was holding something, and have a guy stand in the distance so it looked like he was being held in her hands. I also decided to put a vignette on it. Only minor edits have been made such as levels, color balance, and hue/saturation.

This assignment was very difficult because not only did I have to think of what illusion to do, but I had to make it happen. So, for this one I took three shots of the girl sitting on the couch in different positions. I then brought them into Photoshop and used layer masks to blend the images together to make it look like her arm is really long. I then added color balance, levels, and and an unsharpen mask.

For this week we are working on Panoramics. We have to take three pictures of a scene and merge them together in Photoshop to create one seamless panoramic photo.
